About Me

My name is Sue and having been a Registered Nurse for 36 years I am now practicing as a Qualified Counsellor

I am registered with BACP, a professional body that provides the ethical framework to which I adhere. I also have full indemnity insurance.

As an Intergrative Practitioner, I am able to use whatever methods work best for my clients at the time. Person Centred Therapy enables me to develop a therapeutic relationship with my clients that can help them to share their feelings and emotions in a safe supportive environment.

We are all indivduals and at some time in our lives will need some support and empathy to help to see our own potential and to continue our journey.

Lets do this together.

I specialise in depression, anxiety and bereavement.

Email me to book a free 30 minute appointment to discuss your concerns and decide how we can work together.

I am happy to work with you via telephone, on line platform or face to face in my therapy room.

My hours of work are Mon to Fri 9 – 4.

depression

Depression can manifest itself in a number of ways. A feeling of sadness or despair, loss or even anger. This can sometimes prevent people from carrying out their everyday activities and lead them to seek out treatment from their GP or other Professionals. Sometimes it is relatives or friends of the person who first recognise these changes rather than the person themselves and will encourage them to seek help.

"Some people think depression is trivial and not a genuine health condition. They're wrong – it is a real illness with real symptoms. Depression is not a sign of weakness or something you can "snap out of" by "pulling yourself together".

The good news is that with the right treatment and support, most people with depression can make a full recovery.” NHS

anxiety

Anxiety is a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can be mild or severe. Everyone has feelings of anxiety at some point in their life. For example, you may feel worried and anxious about sitting an exam, or having a medical test or job interview.

But sometimes it is hard to pinpoint where these feelings of anxiety are coming from and they can make you fearful for no apparent reason.

There are a number of ways I can help to support you with anxiety including using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and practising Mindfulness.

bereavement

Everyone will lose a loved one or someone they care about at some point in their lives. People grieve in many different ways, but it is a process that is important to recognise.

Loss can take other forms as well, loss of a pet, loss of a job, divorce, a sudden change in circumstances meaning the life you previously led is now very different. Even a change in your health can find you grieving for the person you felt you once were.

Talking therapies enable you to explore these feelings and so help you through your grieving process.

The NHS recognise the importance of counselling among other tools, to help with this period in your life and cite some of the common symptoms below

  • Shock and numbness – this is usually the first reaction to loss, and people often talk about "being in a daze"
  • Tiredness or exhaustion
  • Anger – towards the person you've lost or the reason for your loss
  • Guilt – for example, guilt about feeling angry, about something you said or did not say, or not being able to stop your loved one dying.

I would be happy to help if you are experiencing any of these symptoms or finding that your grief is becoming too overwhelming in any other way.

general

Sometimes it is hard to put a name to our feelings. We just know we don’t quite feel right. Or things are bothering us more than they usually do.

Some of us may also have problems with addiction or self harm or find ourselves carrying out behaviours we don’t really understand.

Person Centred Talking therapy can help you explore these feelings and behaviours in a safe, non judgemental environment.

Get in touch and take that first step.

Person Centred Therapy

PCT puts you at the centre of the work that we do. It allows you the space to look at things that may have happened in the past, are happening for you currently or that you are worried about for the future, and how these things are affecting your life on a daily basis.

All without fear of judgement and with empathy and understanding from your therapist.

This empowers you to take the journey you want to take.

“The core purpose of person-centred therapy is to facilitate our ability to self-actualise - the belief that all of us will grow and fulfil our potential. This approach facilitates the personal growth and relationships of a client by allowing them to explore and utilise their own strengths and personal identity.” Counselling Directory
